Obituary for Emma Viola Hudson Boaz

Emma Viola Hudson Boaz, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Richard Oakley Boaz.

Viola was born on August 20, 1922, in rural Nelson, Virginia to M. “Jack” Hudson and Viola Newton Hudson. She had one brother “Glen” (Linwood Hudson) who passed away in 1997.

She is survived by her son, Richard Oakley Boaz, Jr., (Jane) of Richmond, VA; daughter, Betty Demers (Brian) of Virginia Beach, VA; and daughter, Lou Anne Shimmin (Gary) of Spring Island, SC; five grandchildren, David Dierstein (Janet), Michael Dierstein (Kristi), Adam Dierstein (Laurie), Steven Dierstein (Jordan), and Kevin Dierstein, all of Virginia Beach, VA; and six great-grandchildren.

Viola and Dick lived in several locations in Virginia as he was transferred for work; settling in Charlottesville, VA for almost thirty years leading up to their retirement. They moved to Virginia Beach in 1998 to be near their grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the YMCA of South Hampton Roads.
