Charles Edward Young, Jr., Master Chief Machinist Mate USN (Ret.), 75, of Laurel Ave. passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2004, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Birmingham, AL, and predeceased by his parents, Ruth Elizabeth and Charles E. Young, Sr., Birmingham, Alabama and one brother, Thomas W. Young of Virginia Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Edith K. Young of 54 years; one daughter, Paula Y. Theriault and husband Simon Peter Theriault of Virginia Beach; two sons, Charles R. Young and Irene Whitbeck of Chesapeake and Kirk D. Young of Virginia Beach; and two adorable granddaughters, Jennifer R. Wheeler and husband Christopher Wheeler of Virginia Beach and Amber Michelle Young of Chesapeake. He is also survived by three brothers, Jerald J. Young of Warrior, AL; Donald D. Young of Pelham, AL, and David A. Young of Hoover, AL.

Charles served 21 years in the Navy and worked for the Navy Department in the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard another 18 years. He was a supervisor and trained apprentices in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Nuclear Freeze Sealing in Shop 56. He was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake. Worthy Patron of Berkley Chapter No. 52 Order of the Eastern Star and Past Patron twice. A 48 year member of Hoover Masonic Lodge No. 644 AF & AM, Hoover, AL. Member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32 degree, Valley of Norfolk, VA, and Khedive Shriners, Chesapeake, VA.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2004, in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel by Dr. Ken Barnes with an Eastern Star service. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodland Heights Baptist Church or Berkley Chapter No. 52 Order of the Eastern Star.
