Obituary for Virginia Lee Brown

On January 9, 2018, Virginia Lee Brown, went to be with the Lord, due to health reasons.

She was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Daniel Penrose Goodman, III, and Lottie May Williams. She was an only child. She was a graduate of Maury High School in 1957. She was a stay at home mom until our teenage years then she worked at Tidewater Emblems as a screen printer till she retired after 43 years. She loved her job there. She then knew she needed to be home to care for her husband of 60 ½ years.

She also loved her Redskins football team but she would always root for all our teams, as long as they weren’t playing her team. Virginia was very independent and loved to move furniture in the house around without help. She loved to work on crafts and sewing.

Watching scary movies and reading books was her thing to do to relax. She loved to hang out with family. She was a giving and caring parent and grandparent who would take anyone into her home. She also helped any family member and stood by their side in time of need no matter how big or small. She was forgiving and accepted anyone regardless of their past mistakes or their faults. She would have gatherings at her home every Christmas because it was special to her, to have everyone together.

Predeceasing her in death besides her parents was her son, Kenneth E. Brown, Jr. Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 60 ½ years, Kenneth E. Brown, Sr.; her daughter, Alveda (Lea) Baskerville and son-in-law, Andrew; and her son, Charles P. Brown and daughter-in-law, Crystal. She will be missed very much by her 15 loving and caring grandchildren and 34 sweet great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Jack Shorter and her nephew, niece, and their children in Asheville, North Carolina. She also leaves behind her beloved best friend of 36 years, Faye and her husband, James Smiddy from Atlanta, GA and a host of other friends and loved ones.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
