Obituary for Joseph Tusinski

Passing of a True Renaissance Man, Joseph passed away peacefully December 24, 2017, and resided in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born June 19, 1924 in Bradley Illinois. The son of Wicenty and Stella Naworska Tusinski who immigrated from Poland.

At his retirement he was the Head of Research and Development of Coburn Optics in Muskogee, Oklahoma, an international optics company, which develops the equipment to manufacture lenses for glasses. During his lifetime, Joseph filed, obtained, and holds multiple patents; taught Electronics at Old Dominion University as well as serving in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Chief, during World War II. He was able to truly do all things; he was an artist and photographer; accomplished in ceramics, calculus, physics, and astronomy.

Joseph was patient and gentle as a parent and he was an excellent role model. He did not gossip about his family publicly. Twenty-four hours a day he was on call! Joseph was always willing to make repairs in our homes, run errands for our welfare, and assist with many college projects. Humor was at the center of much of his life; he loved to laugh and play. Joseph participated in and enjoyed boxing, tennis, basketball, track, and especially golf. The True Renaissance Man in body and mind.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Elnora B. Tusinksi of 49 years and brother Ted Tusinski, his two sons, Steven and Larry and daughter, Judy Grumish. Joseph’s brother, Stephen, and sister, Victoria Tusinski Harris pre-deceased him. Other survivors are Joseph’s son and wife, Joe and Debbie Tusinski; daughter and husband Delores and Bill Holmes. As well as his step-children, Rhonda and husband Ralph Doak, Harry L. Jackson, Jr., and Kay J. Gramling. The surviving grandchildren are Steven Tusinski and wife Sofiya; Tina Liverman and husband Forest; Sheena Wiggins; Anita Forgacs and husband Eric; Megan Holmes; Michelle Wiggins and husband Lee; and Jonathan Joseph Gramling.

Services will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, 11:00 a.m., January 6, 2018. Visitors will be received at 10:30 a.m. for early visitation.
