Alfred William Madsen, 88, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away February 5, 2018.

Growing up in Hoboken, NJ, he was the first in his family to be born in the United States as the son of the late Alfred Holger Madsen of Odense, Denmark and Janet McCulloch Brown of Glasgow, Scotland. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and retired as Civilian Personnel Officer at the Norfolk Naval Base. Alfred was a member of the Corinthian Lodge 266 in Norfolk, VA and an active Mason since April 1, 1955, as well as a Shriner. Moving from Norfolk to Virginia Beach in 1963 with his wife and daughters, Alfred loved to fish, clam, hunt, golf and spend time at his cabin in Virginia with family and friends prior to his wife’s death. Alfred loved to teach and pass on his knowledge of life to his children and grandchildren. He had a strong Belief and Faith in God and loved to sit and contemplate the universe.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Madsen and a sister, Hannah Augusta Brown Madsen Evans and her husband, Cliff Evans. Left to cherish his memory: two daughters, Christine Day Madsen and Carolyn Myrick and her husband, Wayne; four grandchildren, Krista Day Poole and her husband, B.J., Julia Murphy and her husband, Rob, Carl Madsen Carlsen, and Lake Myrick and his wife, Morgan; six great-grandchildren; his nephews Charlie Evans and his wife Carol; Jimmy Evans and his wife Sylvia; John Evans and his wife Nancy; his cousin Billy Sharp and his wife Genny; his many friends and former co-workers; and his dear friend, Thelma Kenney.
