Being in the funeral profession for many years and with the tremendous population growth of our area, we saw a need within the community for an additional cemetery. It was our desire to develop a cemetery that would offer a place of solace and of quiet beauty. With this in mind, we began our search for land to develop a memorial park that could be used by not only the families that we serve in our funeral homes, but also all families.

In 1976, we acquired 31 acres of farmland in the City of Virginia Beach at the intersection of Princess Anne Road and Dam Neck Road (formerly Landstown Road). This area of the city was still rural. Development began shortly thereafter, first establishing the roadways and drainage system, maintenance facility and cemetery office.

We then began development of two burial gardens, Garden of the Risen Christ and Garden of Virginia. Risen Christ offered traditional burial sites with flat bronze memorials for families. Garden of Virginia offered raised burial sites within a walled area with in-ground burial vaults.

Colonial Grove Memorial Park officially opened to the public on October of 1978. The first interment occurred on November 1, 1978.

In 1980, we acquired Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, which encompassed 54 acres in the City of Chesapeake. This well-established cemetery allowed us to build the first funeral home on cemetery grounds in the Hampton Roads area. 

Our cemeteries provide a sanctuary where reflections and thoughts can flourish and resonate in a tranquil, inviting environment. It is a place of natural, landscaped beauty, maintained by dedicated staff. This offers the families that we serve the peace of mind and tranquility that comes from knowing that there loved one, and other family members and friends will be accommodated for generations to come in a beautifully landscaped and perpetually maintained cemetery.

Each of our cemeteries offer a broad range of property choices that will satisfy the needs of the families we serve. From traditional ground burial sites to single and double depth lawn crypt areas, as well as family estates. Also available are interment sites for infants, children and cremated remains. We also offer interior and exterior niche sites for cremated remains.
